I'd date anybody but...

Hello all, I'm Shelli Stevens. Thank you to the Damned Scribbling Women for having me guest blog today! I enjoy visiting this blog, think the ladies who run it are pretty fabulous, plus the blog itself is pretty sweet on the eyes.

Well, yesterday my book Anybody but Justin released. This novella is the first in three in a series that follows three friends with life, friendship, and finding love. My heroine, Gabby, in Anybody but Justin is pretty liberal with her dating life. She's always enjoyed dating. But there's one guy she dares not fall for, and that's her roommate Justin. Even though he's her best friend and she's totally hot for him, she has her reasons for keeping it platonic. But of course Justin has other plans. *Grin*

So now we know that Gabby would rather date anyone but her roommate. Now I'm going to get us all to confess to the guys (or girls) we've all avoided.

Me, there's a few. I've always been pretty turned off by a guy who was just too hot. I mean, eek, I'm no Halle Berry. I'd rather not have to worry about my hottie guy running off with a hotter chick. The other big turn off for me? Well, not so much about the guy, but more of his driving habits. I cannot dig a guy who drives a sports car. Not sure why...they just are so small and feminine to me. LOL.

I tend to like average guys. The ones that have flaws, but are protective, and maybe on the burly side. Oh, and if you drive a truck that's a plus! (Though not for the environment, maybe I should rethink this!) But then again, I'm still single...so right now....hmm all guys are looking pretty sexy. :D

But, how about you? Even if you're married or taken now, tell me how it used to be. Come on and reply, filling in the blanks here: I'd date anybody but ____

One commenter will win a copy of my ebook Anybody but Justin (info below!), which I'm excited to say just received a Recommended Read from Joyfully Reviewed! Or if you already have it, you can pick another ebook off my Samhain backlist!

The line between friends and lovers can get a little blurry…especially when you add tequila.

A Chances Are story.

Gabby is serious about her search for Mr. Right, but no one can say she hasn’t had a good time looking. She enjoys her numerous dates and the sex that comes with them. Until she finds herself falling for the one man she vows to never love. Her best friend and roommate, Justin. A player in every sense of the word—and a reminder of her awful past.

One night, with the help of a bottle of tequila, things get a little too hot for comfort. She moves out, intent on removing him from the line of temptation.

Justin has different plans. The tequila did more than just change how he sees his good friend. It made him realize he doesn’t want to be just friends any more. He’s ready for something more intimate, and he’ll do whatever it takes to find out why she’s running. And convince her to stay.

Available for purchase here.

I like spending time with down to earth people, who are friends above all other things.

Well, everyone wants the hottest guy around but their often the most self absorbed. I like the hot guys that actually work for a living, you know firefighter, construction, real muscles that work as opposed to guys that spend all day in the gym looking at themselves in the mirror. Above all though personality and intelligence is important cause nothing is worse than when a guy opens his mouth and all you want him to do is shut up. Intelligence and personality can make someone average, hotter, and can make a hot guy ugly real quick.

So when I was single I would date anybody (seriously, I wasn't very picky...at all) BUT the guy with the tricked out car. I mean really...a super high spoiler? Shiny hub-cap wheel thingys? Bass so loud it causes heart palpatations (and not good ones, mind you)? But hey...that's just me. :)

The one guy I would love to date, but cannot, is my friend, Jim. I think he is absolutely sexy. Yeah, sure he's nice looking (above average), but he's intelligent, works hard, has a wonderful sense of humor, he's creative and has a great personality.
To me, a sense of humor is important and it should be attached to someone with brains. Not an Einstein, but not a dope either.

When I was out on the playing field, I tended to gravitate toward intelligent, professional types. I needed a man who's testicles wouldn't retract when he found out I was a doctor (and would probably make more money than him), and I also needed someone with whom I could carry on an intelligent conversation. Open-mindedness was also a key point for me, which is why I fled the part of the US where I grew up.

Other turns off: the flashy cars (liek someone mentioned), guys who don't bathe regularly, and guys who wear their pants around their knees.

Julia, I like down to earth people too.

Alix, oh I love the guy who works with his hands. Whose muscles are due to something besides the gym.

Christine, LMAO. Yeah, that goes along with the sports car for me too. A guy who tricks out his car that much just gives me the heebie jeebies.

C.L., sounds like you SHOULD be dating him ;) Yeah the brain and sense of humor is important. Though I have to say I tend to be the funny one, and so it can get weird LOL.

clwhite, LMAO on the retracting testicles. And so very well put!

So I'd date anyone but a guy who's Prettier then me. Don't get me wrong I Like a guy who I think is hot , but he can't be prettier or take longer to get ready then I do to go out, or grooms himself like a girls.....I mean come on be a little manly..LOL

By the Shelli, Anybody But Justin sounds great! Thanks for the fun contest.

Afshan, oh yeah I so hear you on that. That metrosexual thing weirds me out. A guy that's getting manicures and spending more time in the bathroom than me is just...weird.

I like a guy who can go camping for a few days and not mind bathing in the lake.

Fun topic, Shelli! After serving in the army for a long time, I can't deal with long hair on a guy. I'm low-maintenance and low-ability on hair styling, so a man who spends more time, needs more hair equipment and conditioner - no way! Besides, I like the velvety, velour feel of short hair on the back of a guy's head. Like a cat, isn't it?

LOL. Yeah, my desperate stalker radar is well-honed.

I'm in the "I'll go out with anyone once" camp, since you never know who's going to spark something. For date number two I'm a lot more selective.

My turn-offs: 1. Whiners - I'm not gonna get involved with a guy who pitches more fits than the average two year old. 2. Idiots - the ability to carry on a semi-intelligent conversation is always a plus. And 3. Stick-in-the-muds - if Mr. Wrong wants to nix all of my attempts to get him to try new things, I might tolerate it, but only if he's suggesting alternatives. It drives me crazy when a guy just says "No" all the time, but can't be bothered to decide things for himself.

Wow. This was surprisingly cathartic. Can we tell what kind of guys Vivi's been dating lately?

Anna, I love the short hair, too! So sexy that military or man in uniform haircut :P

Trifle, I'm curious about this dirty white hat thing!

Kate, ah yeah, met a few of those!

Vivi, we're in the same boat. High five my fellow single friend! But at least you're dating!

I'll draw a winner before I go to bed tonight to give more people a chance to comment! Just got back from the 'Beyond Heaving Bosoms' signing. Was fabulous :D

The randomly drawn winner is Alix! Alix, you can email me at shelli@shellistevens.com and tell me what ebook format you'd like this in!

Hey Shelli,
Congrats on your new release. How many is this for you now?

I've been married for 22 years, so it's kind of hard to remember my rules for dating, but I do recall three specific no-no's.

1. Never date a guy whose boobs are bigger than mine.

2. Never date a guy whose arms are smaller than mine

3. Never date a guy who puts sweaters on his dogs.

:)Becky

Shelli Stevens said...

Hi, Rebecca! LOL on the boobs bigger than yours. That'd be really weird in my case! Gosh I'm not sure how many it is for me. Let me go look....
It's 16 (but 2 of those are the print versions of the ebook!)And most of those are novellas and short stories. Only 3 are novels.
