Fan-Tastic Procrastination

Well, I managed to survive the first week of school. Goodness! I'd forgotten how exhausting it can be to run herd on 150 teenagers every day. Then there's the grading, the planning, and the interaction with colleagues and parents...

In short, a teacher's work is never done. And neither is a writer's. I was staring at my calendar for the upcoming school year, trying to figure out how I was going to meet all of my obligations for two demanding careers. Oh, and then there's that whole "friends and family" thing. My husband probably needs to spend time with me, not just looking at the back of my head!

Needless to say, I was feeling a little overwhelmed. Happily, however, a friend sent me a lovely means of distracting myself. (Thanks, Martha!) I now know what I would look like if I went to Hogwarts (oh, and had impossibly long legs).

Here's the picture of Kate Diamond, at work and at play in J.K. Rowling's fabulous universe:

You should visit the website yourself! I'd love to see your own Doll Divine, whether you're dressing up as a Hogwarts student or trying on some warrior babe chic. Give us a link! And perhaps this is a dangerous request... but I'm going to go there anyway. What's your favorite website to visit when you're procrastinating and/or unwinding?

I hope you enjoy Doll Divine! Of course, those of us with dirty minds just might use the site to live out our prurient Potions fantasies...

My favorite procrastinating sites are all news-related. I'm a news junkie who reads a real print paper every day. I like to visit slate.com, phinneywood.com and ballard.com (my neighborhood blogs). I got hooked on cnn.com nine years ago when I was deployed to the Balkans and I still check it but the site seems to have migrated to sensational and polemic pieces and less genuine news over the years, becoming for me a habit like biting nails.

Yes, my internet habits are lame.

Oh. My. God. We are soul mates, Kate, I had no idea! I am the most singlemindedly obsessed Harry Potter fan on the face of the planet (at the risk of alienating my fellow HPSers - Harry Potter Syndrome "sufferers" - by being so arrogant as to say so.) I'm heading over there. Right. Now.

Favorite website for when I want to procrastinate/unwind? The Leaky Cauldron, of course! Where I'm Headmistress of a virtual Hogwarts-style castle and run herd over a whole pack of other HPSers aged 12 to 78. :)

OK, I am in love with that site. It sorted me correctly (Gryffindor) and the dolls are way too much fun! But how did you get the pics on your blog? I'm on a Mac, I don't have the print screen thingy... that I can find, anyway. *sigh*

Chassily,

I don't know what to tell you, because I used the print screen. Perhaps we need to get together for some writing time? You could procrastinate on my PC...

I don't know how I feel about sorting quizzes. I tried to be honest taking the quiz (took it twice). It put me in Hufflepuff and then Slytherin. ?! Seems those are pretty different...

... so I just remembered what Dumbledore said about free will and there you go.

Besides, I am totally Hermione. My Sorting Hat quizzes are always off, but on personality tests I score at least 95% Hermione EVERY TIME (no matter the site).

This is actually one of my husband's pet names for me. I say "pet," but he usually calls me Hermione after I go postal over some minor grammar error...

You're so amazing! I don't know how you do it! Teach that many students, write, have a life! But you're a double finalist in the ECO, so you're doing something right ;)

Shelli, thank you so much for your support! I especially needed it after today... hit my first wall at the day job and came home nearly catatonic.

Those early hours (7:00am start time for high school teachers!) are a real killer.

What would you teach at Hogwarts? When you weren't seducing Professor Snape.... :)
Good luck this school year!

Ooh, Alyssa! Difficult question. Little ol' me without magical powers would love to teach a history class at Hogwarts. But, assuming I was a bad-ass witch, I think I'd teach Transfiguration.

Awesome! I like the Clockwork Couture option--Steampunk! If only it was that easy to get costumes in real life...

I really didn't need another procrastination site. My biggest time suck is facebook. Must. Get. Off. Internet. And. Write. EEEEEK!!
